The James F. Dicke Family Transportation Center

The James F. Dicke Family Transportation Center houses the 1835 B&O No. 1, John Quincy Adams — the oldest surviving American-built locomotive — alongside a stunning Barney & Smith parlor railcar, an authentic Conestoga wagon, and many other remarkable transportation artifacts.

Carillon Historical Park’s James F. Dicke Family Transportation Center showcases many chapters of transportation history—from America’s rail and pioneer eras to Dayton’s distinction as home to the nation’s oldest continuously operating electric public transit system. Designed to resemble both a train station and a roundhouse, the Center houses many of the Park’s original artifacts, several of which guests can step inside and explore.
