Carillon Park Railroad
Carillon Park Railroad
This nearly mile-long, 3-foot narrow-gauge railway features a replica 1851 locomotive that carries up to 120 guests on a narrated tour around Carillon Historical Park’s exhibits. Highlights include Dixon & Shafor Junction, a 100-foot triple-cell ConSpan bridge, two open-air coaches, rare views of the Park, and a ride through the historic Montgomery County Fairgrounds Horse Barn No. 17.
The Carillon Park Railroad is a key part of our campus-wide master plan, expanding on founder Edward Deeds’ original vision to feature a large-scale, mid-19th-century locomotive among the exhibits. A miniature model commissioned by Deeds in the 1940s inspired the project. This new railroad fulfills and enhances that vision, offering guests convenient transportation around the Park. While larger in scale, it complements — rather than replaces — the beloved Rail & Steam Society miniature trains operated by dedicated volunteers since 1988.
The project was one of the most ambitious undertakings since the Park’s opening in 1950 — and, like all major initiatives at Carillon Park, it was made possible through the generosity of dedicated financial champions.
