Volunteer at Dayton History!

Volunteering at Carillon Historical Park is a fun and rewarding way to connect with Dayton’s rich history. Volunteers assist with tours, activities, and special events — sharing stories about local innovations and everyday life from generations past. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn, meet new people, and give back to the community while helping history come alive for visitors of all ages.

Opportunities

Special Events

Assist with setting up special events, including festivals and holiday celebrations. Work alongside fellow volunteers during events to ensure everything runs smoothly, and help with cleanup and organizing supplies once the event concludes.

Clodbuster Base Ball Team

Play baseball the way it was played in 1860! Join our historical base ball team (spelled using two words until the 1880s) and experience America’s pastime as it began — no gloves, wooden bats, and plenty of spirit. As an active team member, you’ll compete against other vintage base ball clubs while helping bring 19th-century sports history to life for today’s audiences.

Carillon Park Rail
& Steam Society

Help maintain and operate the locomotives, cars, and tracks of our 7.5-gauge miniature railroad — offering visitors a unique historical and educational experience. This all-volunteer, nonprofit group provides train rides for guests of all ages, keeping the spirit of railroading alive at Carillon Historical Park.

Gem City Letterpress

Share the story of Dayton’s printing industry by demonstrating historic printing presses and equipment in our 1930s print shop. Volunteers operate the machinery, create printed materials, and help visitors experience the craftsmanship and innovation of early printing.

Restoration Crew

Assist behind the scenes with restoration projects, building maintenance, and the preservation of historic structures throughout the park. Volunteers in this role help ensure Carillon Historical Park’s buildings and exhibits remain in excellent condition for future generations to enjoy.

Group Volunteers or Community Service

Assist with setup, preparation, and cleanup for special events at Carillon Historical Park. Volunteer groups can also take part in grounds maintenance and light cleaning inside exhibit buildings—great hands-on projects for schools, clubs, and community organizations. Both student and adult groups are welcome.
